Stanley Nwabali Set for Chippa United Return as South African Club Welcomes Super Eagles Goalkeeper
South African Premiership side Chippa United have confirmed the return of Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Eastern Cape-based club announced Nwabali’s return in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, welcoming the Nigerian international back to the “Chilli Boys.”
The club wrote:
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys.
After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
Nwabali, 30, had earlier parted ways with Chippa United by mutual consent following his return from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria secured the bronze medal after defeating Egypt in the third-place playoff.
The experienced shot-stopper has now returned to South Africa and is expected to rejoin Brandon Truter’s squad as preparations intensify for the new Premier Soccer League campaign.
Reports indicate that Nwabali has already resumed training with the Chilli Boys, with the club moving swiftly to reinforce its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper established himself as one of Chippa United’s standout performers during his previous spell at the club, earning widespread praise for his consistency and commanding displays between the posts.
His return is expected to provide a significant boost to Chippa United as they aim for a stronger campaign in the upcoming South African top-flight season.
Nwabali also remains Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper following his impressive performances for the Super Eagles in recent international competitions.
