Kada Queens Win Fifth Straight National Hockey League Title as Kaduna Extends Domestic Dominance
Kaduna State’s Kada Queens have been crowned champions of the 2026 National Hockey Super League, securing a fifth consecutive league title and further cementing the state’s dominance in Nigerian hockey.
The women’s side defeated Plateau Queens 2-0 in the final at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, successfully defending their crown and extending an extraordinary winning streak that has made them the benchmark in domestic women’s hockey.
Kada Stars also completed another successful campaign by retaining the men’s title after edging Plateau Tigers 3-2 in a thrilling final, ensuring Kaduna swept both the men’s and women’s championships once again.
The latest achievements continue Kaduna State’s remarkable reign in hockey, with both Kada Stars and Kada Queens maintaining their dominance since the 2023 National Hockey Super League season.
Earlier this year, the two teams also conquered the regional stage by winning the men’s and women’s titles at the 2026 Median HFS West Africa Invitational Challenge Cup in Accra, Ghana, reinforcing Kaduna’s status as Nigeria’s leading hockey hub and one of West Africa’s strongest hockey forces.
The Kaduna State Government attributed the sustained success to Governor Uba Sani’s continued investment in sports development through improved athlete welfare, modern sporting facilities, quality coaching, and grassroots talent development.
Permanent Secretary and Overseer of the Kaduna State Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs. Dorcas I. B. Tanko, said the achievements reflect the governor’s unwavering commitment to building a vibrant sports sector capable of producing champions at national and international levels.
According to her, the administration’s deliberate investment has created an enabling environment for athletes to excel consistently, while Kaduna has also emerged as a major talent factory for Nigeria’s national hockey teams.
She disclosed that Kaduna currently has eight players in the national women’s hockey team and ten players in the men’s national team, highlighting the state’s significant contribution to the country’s hockey development.
Mrs. Tanko reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining the momentum by expanding grassroots development programmes and providing the necessary support to ensure Kaduna remains Nigeria’s home of hockey and a model for sporting excellence.
